Our verdict
The Hasenburg, also "Château Lapin" on its facade, is one of the taverns worth travelling to Basel for. The house was rebuilt after the earthquake of 1356, and food has been served here for more than 120 years.
Small, warm, with attentive service: that is how guests describe it most often.
On the plate
The menu lists "Suuri Kalbs Läberli", sour calf's liver with balsamic vinegar, sage and rösti, and sliced veal from Basel-Landschaft in a creamy mushroom sauce. There are also seasonal dishes such as pumpkin ravioli.
The cooking is done in a small kitchen on the first floor.
Location
Schneidergasse starts at Marktplatz, and the Hasenburg is two minutes away. In fine weather there are tables outside.
Our advice
Book, especially on Fridays and Saturdays: the dining room is small. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
