Ueli-Brau-Bar: Basel's own beer on Rheingasse

Ueli beer has been brewed in Basel since 1974, and at the Brau-Bar on Rheingasse it comes fresh from the tap: Reverenz, Weizen, Robur and Lager, with beer sausage and, in winter, beer fondue.

Our verdict

If you want to drink a Basel beer in Basel, head for Rheingasse. Ueli beer has been brewed at the Fischerstube since 1974, and the Brau-Bar next door is its taproom.

In the glass

Four beers are always on tap: Ueli Reverenz, the historic recipe, plus Weizen, Robur and Lager. Two more taps are kept for specials and beers you only find here.

For wine drinkers, the sommelier Adrian Baumgartner has put together a selection of regional wines.

On the plate

With the beer come bread made with spent grain from the brewery, Ueli beer sausage, meat and cheese, a burger including a vegetarian version, and an Indian curry. In winter there is beer fondue on the menu.

Our advice

It is closed on Sundays and Mondays. On Fridays and Saturdays Rheingasse is packed, so come around 5pm for a place at the bar.
