Hyperion Hotel Basel: staying in the Messeturm
224 rooms on the 5th to 14th floors of the Messeturm, right on Messeplatz: the hotel with the shortest walk to Art Basel and a view over the whole city.

Our verdict
You cannot stay closer to the Messe: the Hyperion occupies the 5th to 14th floors of the Messeturm, directly above Messeplatz. The former Ramada Plaza has been modernised and renamed.
Outside fair weeks it is one of the cheaper large hotels in the city; during Art Basel week it is one of the most expensive.
Rooms and restaurant
The 224 rooms and suites are air-conditioned and, since the renovation, done in calm colours and natural materials. From the upper floors you can see over Kleinbasel to the Minster.
The Gaumenfreund restaurant serves the breakfast buffet and regional and international dishes.
Location and walking times
The Messe entrance is three minutes away, the Mittlere Brücke 14, Marktplatz 17 minutes on foot. Tram 2 reaches Basel SBB station in seven minutes; on foot it would take 30.
Our advice
For 17 June 2027, the first public day of Art Basel, the hotel was asking CHF 1,170 for a double room when we checked, against CHF 109 in November. If you do not need to be at the Messe, stay elsewhere that week and take the tram.
Opinions on room size differ. The BaselCard is handed over on arrival.
