Hotel Wettstein Basel: quiet, between the Messe and the Rhine
73 rooms on a residential street near Wettsteinplatz, breakfast in the winter garden and nine minutes to the Messe: the solid choice for those who want more peace than Kleinbasel offers.

Our verdict
The Wettstein is a solid hotel without glamour, in the right place for fair visitors. It sits in a residential area on the right bank of the Rhine, quieter than Clara and Rheingasse.
The 73 rooms are modern and functional, from the budget category to family rooms.
Rooms and breakfast
The better rooms look onto the garden. Breakfast is served in the winter garden and, in fine weather, in the garden; the rooms have fans rather than air conditioning.
Location and walking times
Messeplatz is a nine-minute walk, Marktplatz 15 minutes across the Wettsteinbrücke. Tram 2 stops nearby and runs straight to Basel SBB station, which would be 21 minutes on foot.
Our advice
Ask for a garden-facing room if you value quiet: on the street side guests hear the traffic. In high summer the rooms without air conditioning get warm.
The breakfast buffet usually costs extra, according to the hotel. The visitor tax gets you the BaselCard for trams and buses.
